Some announcements that may impact the markets this week

Big news for this week!

Below are some announcements that may impact the markets this week:

The Monthly Staistical Bulletin

The 'Monthly Statistical Bulletin' is release by Swiss National Bank and represents key domestic and international economic data. In addition, it contains the most important banking statistics from the SNB surveys.

News

The US Dollar climbed to a 5 year high against the Yen based on the potential for economic growth in the US for next year.  The Fed finally said this week that it would start reducing monthly bond purchases (meanwhile the Bank of Japan retained its plan to add nearly $600 billion a year to its monetary base).

While the EUR / USD has come off recent highs this week it still managed to shake off S&P's downgrade of its long term rating to AA+.  This is an indicator that there is a risk of the ECB making moves to boost liquidity.  One scenario is an expanding US economy (simultaneously reducing bond purchases further) which would weaken the Euro against the US dollar.  Strategists are looking at a move back to 1.30 over the medium period.  What we are certainly seeing is a reduction in Monthly volatility.
