Market News

The ECB made its move yesterday by cutting deposit rates to below zero, with the main refi rate being lowered to 10 basis points.  The EUR immediately suffered but bounced back, even though the news has a negative bias to it.  Today, it could not hold on to all of its gains from yesterday and we suspect that that there will be a tendency to slip further in the short term.

The BoE kept rates on hold and while the Euro decision was being announced EURGBP was sold off aggressively, but again rebounded.

USD/JPY was quiet in Tokyo this week with trend and momentum indicators pointing upwards and should end as an up week. The GDP figures on Monday are ones to watch if you are trading JPY crosses, with soft expectations for the numbers.

Binary Trading Startegies

Following on from last week when we talked about trading in volatile periods (e.g. when news events come out) I want to say a little about trend prediction.

Chart 01.jpg

There are many indicators to determine a trend.  In the above graph I have used a Moving Average (MA) and a Parabolic SAR.  When a short term MA crosses the long term MA and 1 or 2 SAR points are plotted you could say that a trend has been formed.  Clearly this is very simplistic, but if you HAVE got the trend correct you can then trade High or Low with some conviction.

It's always good to try out your strategies on the demo platform.

Happy trading!
